Repurposed

After 2 full summers outside of Maria's Bookshop, the inner workings of this piano were a bit exhausted.
We brought it back to our workshop and proceded to remove all the heavy mechanical parts and give ourselves a new look on how to continue to use this instrument.

With a canvas in place, now we had to retrofit the old console to fit an electric keyboard.

A custom physical interface was built to process MIDI data and turn on LEDS or play songs.

This cyborg-version of the OG Maria's street piano was unveiled at the Rodeo Odyssey - a one-month art space pop-up event in Durango, CO.

It also appeared at the Willowtail Springs Nature Preserve for their Scuplture Garden Grand Opening.
