About the Project

In 2009, I bought an accordion on Craigslist. It was then I realized that I did not know how to play the piano, and consequently, the accordion. That summer, a few public pianos appeared in the streets of Salt Lake City. I resolved to try again to learn how to play.

It isn't often that you get the chance to play piano outside. Fresh air and sunshine feel great when making music. Being intimately surrounded by a gentle rain while waltzing through an old tune - gah! What a vibe.

Airports across the world have made space for pianos - available to professionals and amateurs alike. Public pian installations have been a welcome addition to many cities. In Tick, Tick, Boom, Lin Manuel Miranda's musical biopic, the main character conquers his demons and achieves his biggest goals all at the seat of a piano outside in New York City. I want to help anyone in Durango who needs just the right setting for demon-conquering and goal-achieving. The piano they don't know they need is just around the corner.
